Finishing the Season
It is every teams hope to be playing their best basketball as the season draws near, but how is this obtained? If Cornell is to have success in the post season we must learn from past games. Here are some things that we must reflect on to help us prepare for the final stretch. A college basketball game is 40 minutes and only 40 minutes of effort is acceptable. This year we have struggled when we have not had good energy or when we have not finished games.
Having success and being one of the best teams in the conference leads to expectations and attention. These expectations can be good or can hinder a team depending on team’s focus. I am glad we now have a team and culture that expects to win, but we must realize that expecting to win doesn’t make it easy nor does it guarantee anything. Now that we have had success we will start to get more attention and better play from our opponents. No one will overlook Cornell now and we will receive every team’s best shot. Handling these shots are what makes teams good.
Last, senior leadership will be crucial when things get hard. Throughout the year our team has responded to everything we have asked of them, however we soon will be heading into uncharted territories for this team and will need senior leadership when things get hard. In the seniors we trust that “just getting there” is not enough. In hard times our seniors must demand more from themselves and the team and in the end we will see how far we have come.
